What is Steampunk?

Steampunk is a word that first came about to describe a futuristic adventure theme in literature, usually inspired by the Victorian era. Nowadays, it is used to describe any form of art that was inspired by that era and incorporates futuristic elements, such as machinery, inventions and Victorian accessories. If you want to try creating some steampunk style of your own, think about what machinery was innovative long ago, such as watches, clocks, cameras, typewriters, gears, as well as Victorian elements such as lace, filigree, things made by hand, etc. Take apart whatever you have and reassemble it into something new and totally unique – that’s steampunk!
