Jump rings are metal rings that open and close. The most common mistake is trying to force the ends towards each with pressure, which doesn’t give you a firm closure and weakens the metal. The best way to open and close metal rings is to use use two flat pliers (chain nose or flat nose, whichever you prefer). Hold the ring between the pliers with the opening facing up (12 o’clock) position. Open the ring by moving one side away from you and one side towards you. When closing the ring, bring them towards each other. You can slightly overlap them when moving them towards each other and you may even hear a click as it closes. This will provide a much more secure closing.
